2016 Campaign timeline of events

September 1st- January 1st please join our Corporate Campaign!

During this time many Franklin County businesses and corporations will encouraged their employees to make United Way contributions via payroll deduction!  If you work for one of these organizations please consider giving… you may not notice a dollar or two missing from your paycheck each month but the families who need and receive services will be so thankful for your help!  If you work for a company that does not do payroll deductions for United Way yet please contact Meg Hooper Pearson at or call 785.418.2015 and she will help you implement this program!

September 25th join us at People’s bank on 4th and Main for our Chamber Coffee from 8:00-9:00 AM.  Fyi- You don’t want to miss this…People’s bank will donate the coffee and our famous board member MaryAnn Bacon will be baking her amazing coffee cakes for this event!  This will be a great opportunity to meet the Campaign Chair, former Commissioner, Sharon Giess and hear why she supports United Way!

October 1st- January 1st please join our Can Campaign!

During this time many you will see United Way cans around town at registers and checkouts of local restaurants, businesses, and and recreation centers… If you see a can, please donate any change you have!  every little penny helps!

October 1st-November 15th is the United Way Blackout!  

During this time all community members are encouraged to help United Way and its member agencies find volunteers, raise money and promote United Way programs!  You can help by telling a friend, sharing our website, liking us on Facebook and participating in the Campaign by donating or volunteering!  Contact Meg Hooper Pearson at or call 785.418.2015!

October 23rd join us for our Ottawa High School football game 1st Quarter parade!

We hope to see you from the football field!  We plan to have public awareness parade on the football field during the 1st quarter in order to raise awareness and support for United Way !

October 31st join us at a Ottawa University football game!

We hope to see you from the football field!  We plan to have public awareness parade on the football field during the halftime and we will be passing around United Way collection cans to collect donations in order to support United Way programs!

October 1st- November 13th local business owners and employees can join the Small Business Campaign!

A representative from one of United Way’s nonprofits or “Member Agencies” will be visiting your place of business to thank you for your past support, invite you to sponsor our 2016 Sumo event (March 4th) and encourage United Way support through volunteerism and donations!


Please participate in USD 290’s “Penny Wars!”  USD 290 students are encouraged to collect change to donate to United Way.  The classes or classrooms who raise the most money during this time will be rewarded with a fun Pizza Party donated by Casey’s Pizza!

October 31st- Trick or treat so others may eat! 

Franklin County has one of the highest food insecurity problems in the state of Kansas.  If you are able to give please drop off non perishable food at Arvest Bank or mail United Way a check or money order designated to help stock our two food pantries (Hope House and ECKAN). USD 290 and Ottawa University students as well as Communities in Schools and Hungry for Change will be distributing awareness flyers on Halloween night. The children, elderly and disable in our community should not go hungry.  Please help!

October 5th to October 23rd- Join our Online Campaign!  

Making a donation right here on our our website and then encourage others to do so by messaging them, tweeting, emailing and posting our website!  This is an easy way to help our friends and neighbors in need right here in Franklin County!  Please click the “Donate” button today!  You (and all of your social networking friends and associates) can make the difference!

November 15th- Attend Church and join us in prayer and giving!  

Join us on United Sunday! United Sunday is a day of worship dedicated to supporting the 17 Franklin County nonprofits associated with United Way. Encourage your religious leader to say a prayer for our agencies and the people we help and encourage a collection on behalf of the agencies.
